The blockbuster movie "Interstellar" revolves around the adventures of a group of explorers who discover a newly discovered wormhole that helps overcome the limitations of space travel and allows them to travel vast distances. The film was directed by Christopher Nolan ("Inception", "Batman Begins", "The Dark Knight"); the epic soundtrack was composed by Nolan's long-time collaborator, Academy Award, Grammy and Golden Globe winner Hans Zimmer. Zimmer and Nolan deliberately wanted to move away from the music of the Batman trilogy and go in a completely new direction. Before Nolan went on to work on Interstellar, he did something completely uncharacteristic that underscores his desire for emotional material: He asked Zimmer to write music for the film, but without telling him the genre, title, characters or story: 'I said, I'll give you an envelope with a letter. One page. On this page you will find the core of the story. You work one day and then you play me what you've written." Zimmer agreed to the deal. The result was perfect. Zimmer recalls the idea from Nolan's letter, "When we have children, we can't help but look at ourselves through their eyes." Zimmer directed 45 scripts for Interstellar, three times more than for Inception. "Interstellar" won the 2015 Academy Award for Best Special Effects, and the music was nominated for an Oscar, as well as BAFTAs, Golden Globes and Hollywood Music in Media Awards.
