"Sticky Fingers" is considered one of the Stones' best albums, even though it was made during a very turbulent period. After Jagger, Richards and co. left Decca, they formed Rolling Stones Records to release "Sticky Fingers": their own label with the famous crawling tongue as a logo. "We were always in the studio or on tour at that time," recalls Mick Taylor. "It was a permanent rollercoaster ride." Then, in December 1969, in between recording sessions, disaster struck at the Altamont Free Concert when a member of the audience was stabbed to death right in front of the stage. Against all odds, Keith Richards and Mick Jagger's songwriting reached a new peak on "Sticky Fingers". Rock'n'roll, blues, Latin and country came together on a unique musical level. First up was a blues cover of "You Gotta Move". On "Sway" and "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", new guitarist Mick Taylor played two of the Stones' best guitar solos. "Wild Horses" remains one of their most famous ballads to this day. "Brown Sugar" has been one of the Stones' greatest anthems since 1971 and is now finally available as a bonus track in an alternate version with Eric Clapton. This version had previously only been distributed as a bootleg, and fans have long argued whether this version was much better. The cover version of "Sticky Fingers" has also become a legend. Mick Jagger commissioned Andy Warhol to design the artwork. Finally, a built-in functional zipper on the front is adorned with a photo of a well-endowed man in very tight jeans. Unzipping the zipper revealed white underwear. "Sticky Fingers" was recorded at Muscle Shoals in Alabama/USA, at Olympic Studios in London and also at the Rolling Stones' mobile studio in 1971. Even from today's point of view, "Sticky Fingers" is considered an absolute masterpiece and is rightly ranked at the top of Rolling Stone's all-time greatest albums list. Originally created by Andy Warhol using a zipper, the work caused a scandal - and shot to the top of the charts on both sides of the Atlantic. The number one single "Brown Sugar" has evolved over the years into one of rock's NEJ anthems, but songs like the riff-heavy "Bitch" have addictive potential, not to mention the timeless classic ballads "Sister Morphine" and "Moonlight Mile." Alongside "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" and "Sway", "Wild Horses" and "Dead Flowers" also catch the eye, with a rich country feel that would continue to feature in the Stones' work. Keith Richards and Mick Jagger's songwriting collaboration is taken to the next level with this album.
