The Great Southern Trendkill is the sixth studio album by American heavy metal band Pantera , released on May 7, 1996 by EastWest Records. It is the band's first album to feature Phil Anselmo on vocals since 1994's Far Beyond Driven. The album was produced by Terry Date and Pantera . The album debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 chart with sales of over 119,000 copies in its first week in the United States. It was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipping one million copies in the United States. The album spawned three singles, "The Great Southern Trendkill", "War Nerve" and "Suicide Note Pt. II". The Great Southern Trendkill was highly praised by music critics. At the time of its release, it was considered one of the heaviest albums of all time. In a retrospective review, journalist Eduardo Rivadavia of AllMusic called it "the quintessential 90s metal album".
