Blue Cheer was an American rock band that formed in 1967 and is often credited as one of the pioneers of heavy metal music, with their loud and heavy sound influencing the development of genres like hard rock and grunge. The band's name was inspired by a variety of LSD promoted by Owsley Stanley, a key figure in the San Francisco counterculture of the 1960s. Their debut album, "Vincebus Eruptum," released in 1968, is particularly notable for its raw energy and is considered a landmark in the evolution of heavy music. The album includes their best-known hit, a cover of Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues," which exemplified their signature heavy, distorted sound.
