The other tracks on the album, mostly classics from the TOTO repertoire, were remastered by Elliot Scheiner and Gavin Lurssen and his team. The core band of Steve Lukather, David Paich, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams reunited in the studio a few months ago to work on the new record. While searching the Sony Music archives, they discovered several unfinished tracks featuring now-deceased band members Jeff and Mike Porcaro. One of these tracks, "Spanish Sea", was immortalized on the album "40 Trips Around The Sun". "The song originally came from the Isolation album sessions," comments Steve Lukather on the rediscovery. "It didn't make it onto the LP at the time, so we rewrote it and gave it a new chorus. Thanks to modern studio technology, we were able to make music not only with a younger edition of ourselves, but also with Jeff and Mike Porcaro. In doing so, we remembered how well the brothers could ignite a spark. It was a bittersweet moment that brought back a lot of old stories. The "Spanish Sea" reminded us of happy times, and of course a tear or two was shed. It's a typical TOTO song with a strong solo, and I kept the old 1985 melodic solo that Dave wanted. Here the old meets the new, but thanks to our friend, studio legend Al Schmitt, who recorded the tracks, and Bob Clearmountain behind the mixing desk, it sounds like the song was written 14 years ago, not 30+." Lukather says of "Alone," "The song is brand new and was really a team effort. The four of us in the band sat alone in a room and decided to start the album with an uptempo song. The lyrics might be a bit bleak, but we're not youngsters anymore and we've all lived our lives - with the good, the bad and the ugly sides of it. And then you just realise that at the end of your journey, you'll still be alone. We're proud of this track." David Paich came up with the idea for "Struck By Lightning", the third new track on "40 Trips Around The Sun". "I've had the opening riff in my head for months," Paich says. "Joe and the guys helped turn it into a song. I love the heavy arrangement and Luke's solo is already a classic!" This includes the best-selling album in history, Michael Jackson's Thriller, which was co-written by four members of the band.
