This legendary double album, released in 1972, was the first Doors compilation after Jim Morrison's death in 1971. The 22 songs on the album offer a comprehensive introduction to the music of one of rock's most important bands. All tracks were recorded between 1967 and 1971 with the original line-up: John Densmore, Robby Krieger, Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison. The Doors' longtime sound engineer Bruce Botnik has now remastered the original material for the compilation, which owes its title to a line from the song The End. "Weird Scenes Inside The Goldmine" is a successful blend of world-famous hits and favorites from all six Doors albums, from "Break On Through," "Love Her Madly" and "L.A. Woman" to unexpected surprises like Morrison Hotel's "The Spy" and The Soft Parade's "Running Blue." But the album was given an extra dimension by two great B-sides that weren't on the LP, namely "Who Scared You", which was released as a B-side to "Wishful Sinful", and Willie Dixon's "(You Need Meat) Don't Go Further", which was released with "Love Her Madly" in 1971. While the former was already included in some box sets that have since been cancelled, "(You Need Meat) Don't Go Further" is only available on this compilation. Remastered versions can be purchased exclusively here. Review "Until now this fine piece has not been available on CD, catalogue professionals seem to have overlooked this goldmine. This is now made up for, brought up to date but not overloaded state of the art in mastering, and supplemented by two B-sides that didn't fit on the LP."
