Shinedown with a view to the future Shinedown are a band that is breaking records. The Florida hard rockers have released six albums to date, the last four of which have reached the Top 10 in the US. They have the most number one singles on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart (16) and all of their released singles have reached the top five of the chart. In 2022, the quartet is carefree to release their new seventh album "Planet Zero". The record, which contains a whopping 20 tracks, was recorded during the Covid 19 pandemic and, like its predecessor "Attention Attention" (2018), was produced and mixed by bassist Eric Bass (yes, that's his real name) at his previously converted Big Animal studio in Charleston, South Carolina. Vocalist Brent Smith described the album's sound as much more restrained than previous albums. Controversial in content, it also touches on themes the band has avoided in the past. This is already evident in the first single from "Planet Zero", the title track, which was released in January to mark the album's announcement. Accompanied by explosive rock, Smith sings about the growing divisions in our society, which he comments, "When we exclude each other and allow the information we consume and the way we communicate to divide us, we lose our humanity. If you take your eyes off your smart phone for a moment, you will find that there are quite a few people who are doing good and trying to care for others. At the same time, however, an increasing portion of society is falling into unreachable realms. "Planet Zero" is for all of us. The fact is, we are all on this planet, no matter what. Therefore, it is time to look forward together, with empathy, perseverance and strength. In that spirit, welcome to 'Planet Zero'."
