On 6 March, the Netherlands' most commercially successful violinist and orchestra frontman André Rieu releases a new DVD , Shall We Dance, featuring an open-air concert from his home town of Maastricht last year, which flooded the city with dance, joy and romance. During the concert, André and his orchestra, choir and dancers performed all 28 of his most popular songs. A staggering 150,000 fans from 99 different countries attended the concert, which focused on the waltz that launched André's career three decades ago.
The DVD features tracks such as Beautiful Blue Danube, White Horse Inn, Czardas Princess, Sportpalastwalzer and the famous Second Waltz accompanied by three hundred dancers. The album also includes Italian works Volare or Funicul?, funicul? and the legendary Ode to Joy by Friedrich Schiller or Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen.
Special guests this time were the Kings of Disco, who performed YMCA, In The Navy a Go West.
André Rieu' s activities are aimed at introducing and bringing classical music to as wide an audience as possible, and trying to make them fall in love with it. He has been more than successful in doing this - people dance, sing, laugh and cry at his concerts, which average 90 a year. André has also won over 500 platinum awards, which no other classical music artist in history has achieved. Moreover, Rieu is one of the most prolific writers - he records both on tour and in his own studio in his hometown of Maastricht, and has several dozen albums, singles and DVDs to his credit. His dream is to be the first to play on the moon and at the North Pole.
