After a record-breaking tour, most pop stars first take a long vacation to fully rest. Not so ROBBIE WILLIAMS. Britain's finest entertainer finds recording a swing album more relaxing. On this year's stadium tour, ROBBIE delighted more than 700,000 fans live, and his hit "Eternity" topped the charts all summer. He then went to L.A. to snap his fingers to record his new album, "Swing When You're Winning." As an avid admirer of all things swing, ROBBIE naturally puts his heart and soul into the project. "I tip my hat to the Rat Pack here," he declares at L.A.'s legendary Capitol Studios. "I've loved this music since I was a kid. It's an incredible honor to even be able to sing in the same studio with Frank Sinatra's old band behind me." The list of musicians ROBBIE has managed to recruit for this project is truly astounding. The band includes Harold Jones, drummer from Count Basie's orchestra, trumpeter Chuck Findley and tenor saxophonist Pete Christlieb. The 18-piece band, made up of some of the best swing musicians in the world, is led by arranger Steve Sidwell. The icing on this impressive jazz cake is the fact that 82-year-old Bill Miller accompanies ROBBIE on piano on the same track he helped Frank Sinatra with on the original recordings: 'One For My Baby'. "Swing When You're Winning" also features a few choice duets, including an intimate recording of the beautiful "Something Stupid" with Nicole Kidman, which will also be the first single from the album and will be released on December 10, 2001. I was actually expecting a rejection, she's a Hollywood star, but she said yes. I was thrilled." Nicole is also thrilled with the result. "ROBBIE is a joy to work with," she smiles during a tea break in the recording studio. "I felt comfortable with him straight away and he made me laugh. He's also got a great tattoo and I'm seriously thinking of getting one too." He adds in a quiet minute: "ROBBIE is a man at heart and a great singer. His version of 'Mr Bojangles' brought tears to my eyes." Other duets on this record include a song with the master himself: Frank Sinatra. Also appearing in the film are Jon Lovitz, star of Saturday Night Live, and actress Jane Horrocks, with whom ROBBIE is well acquainted. There are also duets with British actor Rupert Everett ("Another Country", "Dance With A Stranger") and Jonathan Wilkes, who, like ROBBIE WILLIAMS, comes from Stoke-on-Trent and has been friends with him for years. This fantastic album was presented live by ROBBIE WILLIAMS on 10.10.2001 at the famous Royal Albert Hall in London under the title "One Night With Robbie Williams" with a 58-piece orchestra and 20 dancers. As for the musical selection, "Swing When You're Winning" features Sinatra classics like "Did You Evah?" as well as extraordinary new interpretations of evergreens and standards like "Ain't That A Kick In The Head" and "They Can't Take That Away From Me." Not to mention ROBBIE's version of "Mack The Knife" ..... ROBBIE is beaming with joy, because he seems to have made an exceptional record this time too. There's only one complaint: the snapping makes my fingers hurt - I think it's called "swinging fingers". It also hurts the muscles at the corner of my mouth, because now I'm always making an extra jazzy face. Other than that, I'm enjoying it, it's just great."
Álbum abarca todos los géneros Jazz y Swing.
