After a summer of concert appearances, PJ Harvey completed work on the new album and spent the fall of 2003 working on it. The entire album was written, recorded, mixed and produced by Harvey. Head helped her with mixing and other recording work, and her longtime collaborator Rob Ellis played drums and percussion. All other instruments were played by PJ Harvey herself.
