PETER GABRIEL has been paving and refining his career for several years with golden ballads. From "Carpet Crawl" to "Here Comes The Flood" to "Biko", he has created in many ways unforgettable songs of world-class stature. The musician, who with Real World is one of the most experimental labels in the world, now opens a new chapter of his multi-faceted output with "Scratch My Back". The album is a prelude to a series of works in which artists cover the songs of their peers - and vice versa. As expected, PETER GABRIEL's selection was delicate, ranging from Arcade Fire, Bon Iver and Radiohead to Lou Reed, Talking Heads and Tom Waits. GABRIEL decided to do without guitar and drums. Together with composer and arranger John Metcalfe (Durutti Column) and two producers, Bob Ezrin ("The Wall") and Tchad Blake, the singer stripped the songs down, slowed them down and gave them a classic orchestral feel. The result is a work of dark romanticism and refined beauty that will have PETER GABRIEL fans licking their fingers rather than scratching their backs. And we can also look forward to a sequel to this exciting project.
