Rock icon Patti Smith's brand new album "Banga" will be released on June 1. This is the first LP album of new songs since the release of the highly acclaimed "Trampin'", which celebrated the musician, photographer and songwriter's debut on Columbia Records in 2004. It was followed in 2007 by "Twelve," which featured cover versions. "Banga" was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York City and produced by Patti Smith and her band. The line-up includes Tony Shanahan, Jay Dee Daugherty and her longtime musical partner Lenny Kaye. In addition to Tom Verlaine, Jack Petruzzelli, Patti Smith's son Jackson, and her daughter Jesse Paris also contributed songs as guests. "Banga" features twelve songs, including the melodic overture "Amerigo," based on Amerigo Vespucci's journey to the New World in 1497, the rock song "Fuji-san," dedicated to the people of Japan after last year's earthquake, the ballad "This Is The Girl" in memory of Amy Winehouse, the improvised meditative "Constantine's Dream" and a birthday song for her boyfriend Johnny Depp called "Nine."
