Blackwater Park is often considered Opeth's masterpiece, combining elements of death metal, progressive rock and folk music, and featuring intricate arrangements and virtuosic playing. The songs are dark and atmospheric and the lyrics are inspired by nature and mythology. The album was well received by critics and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. It has been praised for its musicianship, songwriting and production values and is considered one of the most influential metal albums of the 2000s.
