Yvonne Lefébure (1900-1986) was one of the most important French pianists and piano teachers of the 20th century. She showed musical talent at an early age. At the age of six, she began to learn to play the piano. At the age of nine she won the prix de petits prodiges at the Paris Conservatoire and at twelve she gave her first recital. Unfortunately, Yvonne Lefébure has made relatively few recordings - compared to other great pianists. This 5-CD release should therefore be all the more valuable. CD 1 is devoted exclusively to Beethoven, CD 2 to Mozart and Beethoven, CD 3 to Johann Sebastian Bach, CD 4 mainly (except Chopin) to French impressionist music, and CD 5 contains piano concertos by Mozart and Schumann. The earliest recording on this compilation is Paul Dukas's Rameau Variations (CD 4) from 1935, the latest is on CD 2 from 1959 with Mozart's Violin Sonata K 379 and Beethoven's 'Pathétique'. Most of the recordings in this edition were made in the 1950s. Yvonne Lefébure was an outstanding soloist, chamber player and solo performer in concerts, as the listener can get an idea here.
