Since its formation in 1976, Foreigner has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide. Their debut album, released the following year, easily reached the five-times platinum mark in the US, and the follow-up "Double Vision" (released in '78) even surpassed it, going seven times platinum. The album "Head Games", released a year later, was also five times platinum. The '81 album "4" contains the hits "Jukebox Hero", "Waiting For A Girl Like You" and "Urgent" and has gone six times platinum. The follow-up "Agent Provocateur" was released in 1984 and contained the big hit "I Want To Know What Love Is", which went to number one in the US, UK and Germany. Mick Jones, the main songwriter, guitarist, leader and still the only original member of the band, is also the producer and co-writer of songs including Billy Joel's "Stormfront" and Van Halen's "5150". The last studio album "Can't Slow Down" also sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide, easily reaching the Top 20 in Germany and becoming the best-selling album of the last 25 years. Foreigner are still one of the most successful AOR bands in the world. Now "I Want To Know What Love Is - The Ballads" is the band's first ever compilation of ballads and love songs. In addition to the classic hits in a new style, "I Want To Know What Love Is - The Ballads" also includes songs from the current studio album - including, of course, the catchy pilot single "When It Comes To Love" (a Top 40 hit on US and German radio), which impressively proves that Jones still has a unique flair for songwriting even in his 60s. Not for nothing was Mick Jones inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2013 - along with former Foreigner singer Lou Gramm. Jones: 'A strong melody has always been the most important thing to me in my songs,' he explains his seemingly simple motto. A recipe for success that has made Foreigner one of the most successful bands in rock history, with more than 80 million records sold - and counting. Four songs ("Feels Like The First Time," "Say You Will," "The Flame Still Burns," "Double Vision") from 2011's "Acoustique," an album that featured contributions from several string and percussion players, are also included, providing a stylistic relief among the regular studio album tracks. In addition, "Save Me" is arguably Foreigner's most recent original track on "I Want To Know What Love Is - The Ballads", a collaboration with Samantha Ronson, stepdaughter of Mick Jones and younger sister of British music producer Mark Ronson (Amy Winehouse, Robbie Williams). Ronson also produced the track "Fool For You Anyway" on this album. After nearly 40 years in the music business, Foreigner are no newcomers. They have never ceased to delight different generations of music fans with their exciting mix of boisterous blues and masterfully crafted pop, and - unlike most contemporary popular music - they don't have a half-life at the end of which they would fade into obscurity.
