Time for the crown Quality and quantity - Eric Gales can do both. The American blues-rock guitarist, also known as Raw Dawg, is releasing a new album in 2022, "Crown", which contains an impressive 16 songs. This thesis is underscored by the fact that he has released a total of 17 albums in the last 30 years. "Crown" is therefore album number 18, the follow-up to 2019's "The Bookends". "Crown" was produced by Joe Bonamassa and Josh Smith. The songs were co-written by Eric, Josh and Joe, with contributions from Gales' wife LaDonna Gales and well-known songwriters like Tom Hambridge, James House and Keb' Mo'. The album was recorded at Sound Emporium Nashville and remastered at Ocean Way Nashville and Earthtone Studios in Greensboro, N.C. Eric shows his most vulnerable side on this album, uncompromisingly political and unwaveringly confident. He speaks openly and honestly about his struggle with substance addiction, his hopes for a new era of sobriety and unbridled creativity, and his personal reflections on racism. After five years of sobriety, creative rejuvenation and epiphany, the songs on "Crown" are now clear and distinct. Gales revealed what it will sound like early on with the single "I Want My Crown," a melange of virtuosic guitar fireworks and a funky groove, backed by fellow collaborator Bonamassa, who shares much in common with him. In the early '90s, both were hailed as blues prodigies. But Gate's journey to the top was interrupted by his drug problems. It wasn't until 2019 that the two musicians reunited and shared the same stage. "We've always had a brotherly bond. When we got together, Joe told me, 'You're a badass guitar player, now it's your turn to get a seat at the table and wear the crown'," Eric recalls. So the album's title is no coincidence. Among the 16 tracks on "Crown" are three purely instrumental songs. And these jams are also real gems.
