At the latest since the 2016 Oscars, Ennio Morricone is known not only to music connoisseurs: the 81-year-old Italian composer received an Oscar for the soundtrack to Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight" and received a standing ovation. Morricone has been working on film and television music since 1954. He has scored many Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy nominated films such as The Untouchables, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in the West and The Mission. The soundtrack to Roland Joffé's 1986 film The Mission was ranked 23rd in the 100 Greatest Soundtracks of the Last 100 Years, has served as inspiration for countless artists, and was even used in the 2002 Winter Olympics. In particular, the main theme "Falls" is familiar to many due to its widespread use in television and advertising. Musically, Morricone's composition moves between liturgical chants, Spanish guitars and original drum rhythms that manage to embody the film's theme - the clash of different cultures.
