Does anyone else remember Descendents? Hopefully you do! The California punk band, formed in 1978, was formative for melodic hardcore along with Bad Religion. The band went on hiatus for twelve years, with their last album "Cool To Be You" released in 2004. But breaks, breakups and reunions are inherent to the Descendents, and somehow it always went again. And so it is now. "Hypercaffium Spazzinate" is the quartet's ninth studio album. It was recorded by Milo Aukerman (vocals), Stephen Egerton (guitar), Karl Alvarez (bass) and Bill Stevenson (drums), a long-standing line-up that has been around since 1986. And that's not the last follow-up the Descendents have come up with; the 16 new songs rarely reach the magical three-minute mark as usual, and are carried along by the same irrepressible energy the foursome has always brought to their pop punk songs. Responsible for this are "forces that draw on 'rejection, food, coffee, girls, fishing and food'", as they put it. It's that simple. Although the recording process wasn't difficult and stretched out over several years because all four musicians live in different states.
