Aretha Franklin was born on 25 March 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee. Thanks to her father, a famous Baptist preacher, she was exposed to gospel music at an early age. In 1956, she released a gospel album with her father on a local record label. At the age of 18, Aretha Franklin landed her first recording contract and released her first album in 1960. She worked as a club singer and released more albums, which were increasingly successful. In 1967, Aretha Franklin switched record companies and broke through immediately with her first single. She became an icon of black music in the USA as the "First Lady Of Soul" and also as the "Queen Of Soul". Aretha Franklin died on August 16, 2018 at the age of 76 from cancer.
