This legendary recording was made with violin star Anne-Sophie Mutter and Herbert von Karajan. This is a record-breaking recording: Vivaldi's Four Seasons, recorded in 1984 with the Vienna Philharmonic and Herbert von Karajan at the podium and harpsichord, was the first classical music album ever to achieve platinum status. The record of recordings has long since earned its place in the hall of fame of legendary recordings. Now it is also gaining the dignity of vinyl! It was two days in June 1984 when Vivaldi's Seasons was performed in the festive hall of the Vienna Hofburg. At the time, no one would have believed in the record that later came to pass. But it was clear to all involved that this was an exceptional recording: the young violinist, who was then only 21 years old, had been discovered years earlier by Herbert von Karajan. After recordings of Mozart's works and romantic virtuoso pieces, the four Baroque concertos were intended to show the new face of an artist who was about to reach the first zenith of her international career. The many naturalistic depictions in them - such as birdsong, thunderstorms and joyous celebrations - offered Anne-Sophie Mutter completely new possibilities for musical expression. Her extremely passionate performances of these stories over the years helped lay the foundations for the Vivaldi mania that has continued unabated ever since.
