To overcome this crisis, she retreated to a cabin in the woods on the outskirts of her hometown with only an acoustic guitar and a very simple recording device. The result of this music therapy treatment, however, is far more multilayered than the minimalist circumstances might suggest. "The Darkest Skies Are The Brightest" has become the most moving album in Anneke's career to date. With the help of acoustic guitar, strings, horns, drums and a hypnotic voice, Anneke tells captivating stories interspersed with thunderous grooves here and there.
