Metalcore

Metalcore is a metal subgenre that combines elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk. As with other styles combining metal and hardcore, such as crust punk and grindcore, metalcore is known for its use of breakdowns, slow and intense passages leading to moshing. Other key instrumental qualities include heavy riffs and rhythm guitar stop-start, occasional beats and double bass. Singers in the genre usually shout or scream. Some later metalcore bands combine this with clean singing, often during the chorus. Death growls and gang vocals are common. The first wave of metalcore bands in the 1990s were inspired by hardcore, while later metalcore bands were inspired by melodic death metal bands such as At the Gates and In Flames.
