In the early 1990s, emo was embraced and discovered by alternative/indie rock and pop punk bands like Jawbreaker, Sunny Day Real Estate, Weezer, and Jimmy Eat World. In the mid-90s, bands like Braid, Promise Ring and Get Up Kids emerged from the growing emo scene in the Midwest, and several genre-specific record labels began to specialize.
