One-Woman Experimental Loop Artist

Syrhea Conaway is a multi-instrumentalist and music instructor who lives and works in St. Louis. Writing, arranging, and performing music since age 10, Conaway has earned medals in District and State competitions, and she performed at Carnegie Hall with the National Youth Chorus at age 18. She has since twice performed for TEDx Gateway Arch, given musical speeches for the Arts and Education Council, been a panelist on “Women in Music”, moderated conversations with Damon Davis, as a part of USDAC and the Regional Arts Commission’s CultureSHIFT 2016, as well as St. Louis Blues Society’s Race and Blues series in 2018. She has opened for many national artists such as, Asobi Seksu, Kristeen Young, Future Islands, and Paul Rucker (cellist/artist), and collaborated with world-renown ensemble Alarm Will Sound for a performance at the Sheldon Concert Hall in 2015. In the fall of 2017 she participated as a member of New Music Circles’ St. Louis Ensemble collaboration led by LA electronic musician John Weise. She’s produced live sound design for the Peabody Award Winning Podcast “To the Best of Our Knowledge” that aired on 220 NPR stations in the summer of 2017. She made her acting debut in the winter of 2018 with Metro Theater’s production of Wonderland: Alice’s Rock and Roll Adventure. She accepted the DJ in Residence of 2019 at the Contemporary Art Museum and continues to present workshops at local schools and libraries. Conaway has returned to the Center of Creative Arts (COCA)’s Summer Institute which aims to bring art integration to school curriculum. Recently she composes commissioned work for Chamber Project St. Louis and Classical Guitar Society of St. Louis, scores original music for local theater companies including, Lawrence Art Center, Shakespeare Festival of St. Louis, SIUE, COCA , Upstream Theater, and performs occasionally via virtual events.
