Richard Eilenberg

German Composer and Military Musician

Richard Eilenberg (1848–1927) was a German composer known primarily for his light music, including marches and dance pieces. He was a contemporary of the Strauss family and his works were popular during the late 19th century. Eilenberg's compositions often reflected the tastes of the period, with titles that suggested a sense of occasion or scenic imagery. One of his most famous pieces is "Petersburger Schlittenfahrt" (St. Petersburg Sleigh Ride), which remains a popular light concert piece to this day. Although not as renowned as Johann Strauss II, Eilenberg contributed significantly to the genre of light music, and his works were appreciated for their charm and melodic appeal.
