Multilingual Folk Singer-Songwriter

Lhasa de Sela, known simply as Lhasa, was a singer-songwriter who possessed a unique blend of folk, world music, and eclectic influences that reflected her international upbringing. Born in the United States in 1972 to a Mexican father and an American mother, she spent much of her childhood traveling in a converted school bus with her family, which contributed to her exposure to various musical traditions. Lhasa's career began to flourish with the release of her debut album "La Llorona" in 1997, which was entirely in Spanish and earned critical acclaim for its haunting melodies and rich storytelling.
