Johann Heinrich Rolle

German Baroque Composer and Thomaskantor

Johann Heinrich Rolle (1716–1785) was a German composer, organist, and teacher who made significant contributions to the music of the late Baroque and early Classical periods. Born in Quedlinburg, he later moved to Magdeburg, where he became the city's music director and organist at St. John's Church. Rolle composed a substantial body of work, including oratorios, cantatas, symphonies, and chamber music. His compositions are characterized by their melodic inventiveness and harmonic richness.
