Cuban Sonero and Bolero Singer

Ibrahim Ferrer was a prominent Cuban singer and musician born on February 20, 1927, in Santiago de Cuba. He was renowned for his work in the son cubano genre, which is a style of music that originated in Cuba and combines elements of Spanish canción and guitar with African rhythms. Ferrer's career did not reach international acclaim until the late 1990s when he became part of the Buena Vista Social Club project. This ensemble of Cuban musicians was brought together by American guitarist Ry Cooder and British producer Nick Gold, leading to the release of the critically acclaimed and commercially successful album "Buena Vista Social Club" in 1997. The album's success helped revitalize Ferrer's career at the age of 70, leading to his first solo recording with the same label, World Circuit Records.
