Bikini Kill was a seminal punk band that emerged from the Pacific Northwest's vibrant music scene in the early 1990s. They are often credited with pioneering the riot grrrl movement, a feminist punk subculture that sought to address sexism and empower women within the music industry and beyond. The band was formed in Olympia, Washington, in 1990, and consisted of lead vocalist Kathleen Hanna, guitarist Billy Karren, bassist Kathi Wilcox, and drummer Tobi Vail. Bikini Kill's music was known for its raw energy, confrontational lyrics, and DIY ethos.
