Progressive death metal band

Atheist is an influential American progressive death metal band known for their technically complex style and incorporation of jazz and Latin elements into their music. The band was formed in Sarasota, Florida, in 1984, originally under the name Oblivion and later R.A.V.A.G.E. (Raging Atheists Vowing A Gory End). They changed their name to Atheist in 1988. The group's career began to take off with the release of their debut album "Piece of Time" in 1990, which showcased their unique blend of technical musicianship and extreme metal.
