Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation is releasing its seventh album, Resist, on December 14. The record is full of dark anthems, unassuming melodies and dark corners that push metal in a futuristic direction - both musically and thematically. "Resist is an important milestone for us. If we hadn't recorded this record, we probably wouldn't be here anymore. We drew inspiration from modern music, which we gave a very dark face to. We feel that pop music nowadays lacks a rebellious side. Our main goal was to collect fragments of sounds we liked and sharpen their edges as much as possible. The result is a new musical world. It's much heavier, dirtier and futuristic," frontwoman Sharon den Adel illuminates the record.Within Temptation became prominent in the Dutch underground scene after the release of their debut album Enter in 1997. Four years later, their single Ice Queen, which came second in the local charts, brought them to the attention of the wider public and in the following years they won the Conamus Exportprijs award five times in a row. The next two albums, The Silent Force and The Heart of Everything, had already debuted at number one. Their fifth album, The Unforgiving, which was released alongside a comic book and short film that together formed a complex story, has already become a worldwide success, selling over 3.5 million copies. The sixth Hydra album, released in 2014, only cemented the band's well-earned position. Guest appearances on the album include Tarja Turunen, Howard Jones of Killswitch Engage and Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum.
