On the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the founding of the Thomanerchor Leipzig, Rondeau Production is releasing a ten-part CD series of selected cantatas for the church year. After the previously released CDs on the Reformation, Christmas and Whitsuntide, a fourth series is now being released: with the cantatas "Schwingt freudig euch empor", BWV 36 and "Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland", BWV 61 and BWV 62, works that Johann Sebastian Bach composed for performance at the first Advent are recorded. As Thomaskantor in Leipzig, he followed the practice of the tempusclausum silent period: from the second to the fourth Advent, no figurative music was played during the services.
