The Trojan Story, one of the most important collections in Trojan's vast catalogue, dramatically changed the perception of Jamaican music among the general British public outside the country's Afro-Caribbean population. Prior to its publication in 1971, no one had ever attempted to present a comprehensive anthology of the island's musical development, as the old genres of ska, rock steady and reggae were generally considered outdated and of little value. The triple CD, which became an instant bestseller, was the brainchild of Trojan label manager and black music aficionado Rob Bell, who, with the support of Trojan stars Dandy Livingston, Webster Shrowder, Dese Bryan and Joe Sinclair, created arguably the most important retrospective of Jamaican music ever. Now, 50 years after its original release, this hugely influential album has been reissued by Bell alongside reggae musician Rusty Zinn, and manages to enhance an already near-perfect collection. The 3CD set is presented in the distinctive original packaging and is accompanied by a lavishly illustrated 28-page booklet in which Bell and Zinn tell the stories behind the release and the 50 tracks on the compilation.
