This collection of 93 instrumental pieces and songs offers an enticing look at the guitar, viloine and banjo music played by Texas backwoods musicians in the 1920s and 1930s. There is an eternal musical mystery in these songs that invites exploration and musical time travel. These pre-war musicians drew on very old folk traditions while coming up with new pioneering works. The compilation is a journey far into the depths of early Texas, when the echoes of the elders and the birth pangs of the younger musical generation were blended in music - Texas was a magical place where older traditions blended with modern forms to create a new whole.
