Shaping the Century Vol. 1 collects key works from the period 1900-1949 on 28 CDs, providing a condensed overview of the enormous diversity of musical output and the imaginative and subtle sonic culture of the period. All the recordings are from the Decca and Deutsche Grammophon catalogues and feature major artists including Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez, Riccardo Chailly and Leonard Bernstein.
