The phenomenon of DJing emerged in Jamaican music as early as the ska era in the late 1950s. The first DJs such as Count Machuki and Sir Lord Comic began to loudly announce popular songs then. This kind of aggressive yet passionate promotion meant that the songs being played were accompanied by regular question and answer sessions. The DJ's jive talk became so popular in dancehalls and soundsystems that it was eventually immortalised on vinyl, adding another chapter to reggae's colourful history.
