Music as medicine This recording is a compendium about tarantella and tarantism. This anthropological phenomenon was widespread in the Mediterranean, especially in Apulia and Salento. The most typical manifestations of the various types of tarantella are found in melodies and rhythms of different origins. On this "music-medicine" journey, Liuwe Tamminga played on some of the most valuable historical organs in Salento and in the area around Otranto. The organ, the main instrument on this recording, is, according to tradition, occasionally combined with other "healing" instruments such as violins, plucked instruments and percussion.
