While the first album "Fahrt ins Blaue" on ACT offered top-notch songs for sitting down with coffee and laid-back soul trees, "Fahrt ins Blaue II - groovin' in the spirit of jazz" is the soundtrack for opening up the dance floor. A compilation with funky jazz, gritty blues and plenty of soul, it's an invigorating warm-up for a budding party. The sun has disappeared behind the horizon and the DJ shifts the controls: the tight brass section of the WDR Big Band introduces "Fahrt ins Blaue" with Art Blakey's Jazz Messenger classic: "Moanin'". Torsten Goods takes the reins with a cover version of U2's "When Love Comes To Town", with its disco bass lines and Wolfgang Haffner's "pocket" groove bidding farewell to any standing ovation. Roli B. B. King here is taken over by the Swedish Ida Sand. She later sings another duet with Raul Midón - "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother". Interpretation of the song "Paradise" from the album "Lite Me Up!" from 1982 by Victoria Tolstoy is reminiscent of Herbie Hancock's disco/pop phase. Then Joe Sample and Nils Landgren join in. American Fender legend Rhodes, who died in 2014, and Mr. Redhorn have nothing to do with Hollywood, but the heavy grooves apply all the more to them as they nail "Don't Take My Love To Hollywood" down without pomp or fuss. The 1997 ACT classic "Joshua" from Bernard Purdie's "Soul To Jazz" album follows easily: pure gospel funk! Magnus Lindgren's "Penny Blue" was written a full 20 years later. The last track on the album "Fahrt ins Blaue II" is the best soul jazz that was created in Stockholm. Then it's time for true southern soul: Mighty Sam McClain, who died in 2015, brings a lot of Louisiana feel to "Fahrt ins Blaue". Youn Sun Nah shows his unusual dance side in a cover version of Paul Simon's "She Moves On" accompanied by American guitarist Marc Ribot. Then comes a brief respite: Solveig Slettahjell's "Holy Joe" brings a gentle bluesy note, and Muriel Zoe sings Steely Dan's "Rikki Don't Lose Your Number" with a relaxed country feel. Before Nils Landgren performs with the full Funk Unit. Backed by the WDR Big Band, Randy Brecker then plays Lee Morgan's soul-jazz hit "The Sidewinder" on flugelhorn for the grand finale. The DJ set appears to be over, but the call for an encore follows: Pete York fills the dance floor one last time with his thick organ funk.
