The Joshua Tree is the fifth studio album by Irish rock band U2 , released on 9 March 1987. Produced by Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno, it was the band's first album with producer Steve Lillywhite and was a critical and commercial success, becoming the fastest selling album in British history at the time. The album was U2's first to reach number one in the United States, where it spent nine weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 chart. The album won the 1988 Grammy Award for Album of the Year and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. The Joshua Tree is one of the group's most popular albums and has gone platinum seven times in the United States. The album spawned two hit singles, "With or Without You" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", the latter of which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for four weeks. The album also includes the hits "Where the Streets Have No Name", "Bullet the Blue Sky" and "Red Hill Mining Town".
