The White Stripes is an American rock duo formed in 1997 in Detroit, Michigan. The band consisted of Jack White (vocals, guitar, piano) and Meg White (drums, vocals). After releasing several singles and three albums within the Detroit music scene, The White Stripes established themselves nationally as part of the garage rock revival scene in 2002. Their successful and critically acclaimed albums White Blood Cells and Elephant brought attention to the band outside of the United States. The band's third album, Get Behind Me Satan, was released in 2005. Following the release of their fourth album, Icky Thump, The White Stripes announced in February 2011 that they were breaking up. Their last concert took place in July of that year at the Fox Theatre in Detroit.
