Small-town rock stories Surprise: The Killers are releasing their seventh studio album in August 2021. "Pressure Machine" is the follow-up to "Imploding the Mirage," which the American rock heroes only released in 2020. As with many artists, the Corona pandemic meant the band suddenly had plenty of time to write new music. And they used it well. The Killers became preoccupied with their art and took their frustration into their music. Flowers describes his emotional state and new sound this way, "For the first time in a long time, I was confronted with silence. And out of that silence, this record began to blossom, full of songs that would otherwise be too quiet and drowned out by the noise of typical Killers records." "Pressure Machine" is indeed the band's most sober and resonant album, dealing thematically and musically with ties to home and growing up in a lonely place in the American South: the small town of Nephi, where Flowers spent his youth: "I have many fond memories of my time in Nephi. But the ones that involved fear or great sadness were charged with emotion. I understand it more now than when we started the band, and I hope I've done justice to those stories and life in the small town where I grew up," the singer said. The album was co-written by Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado, who worked together on the last Killers record. The Pressure Machine album also features a duet with singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers. The Killers were formed in 2001 and, after several initial lineup changes, the band has since 2002 consisted of Brandon Flowers (vocals, keyboards, bass), Dave Brent Keuning (solo guitar, backing vocals), Ronnie Vannucci Jr. (drums, percussion) and Mark Stoermer (bass, rhythm guitar, backing vocals). By 2020, they had released six studio albums, all of which reached number one in the UK charts. Album number seven: "Pressure Machine" will be released in 2021.
