On Metacritic, which assigns a standard rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 58, which translates to a "mixed or average rating". Queen In The 1980s debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart, having sold over 44,000 copies in its first week. The album also debuted at number two on the Irish Albums Chart and at number three on the Scottish Albums Chart.
