Includes a beautifully illustrated booklet with an essay by Roland Clare and exclusive quotes from his interview with Gary Brooker! The album, released in April 1974, is the result of a series of recording sessions that were marred by various power outages caused by industrial disputes during the winter of '73. Despite the difficult conditions, Exotic Birds and Fruit became further evidence of the first-class songwriting of Gary Brooker and lyricist Keith Reid, who delighted more than just Procol Harum listeners with strong tracks such as Nothing But The Truth, As Strong As Samson, Beyond The Pale, Butterfly Boys and The Idol. The album features the full line-up of Gary Brooker, Alan Cartwright, Chris Copping, Mick Grabham and B. J. Wilson at their very best, very inspirational. This new expanded CD edition of Exotic Birds And Fruit includes the original album with two bonus tracks and two additional CDs featuring the band's full performance for the BBC Radio One In Concert show in March 1974 and a previously unreleased 65-minute live set recorded at January Sound Studios in Dallas on July 5, 1974 for KZEW FM. On this album, Procol limited himself to the basic elements, no loops or echoes. Instead, the band works its way through the songs entirely on its own.
