Prince's Mystery Album: 'Welcome 2 America' The Prince Estate and Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment, are proud to announce that Prince's 2010 mystery album "Welcome 2 America" will be released on July 30. A powerful creative statement documenting Prince's fears, hopes and visions of a changing society, anticipating an era of political division, misinformation and a renewed fight for racial justice. In the powerful title track, "Welcome 2 America," Prince delivers an incisive musical monologue about "golden parachutes," the superficiality of social media, celebrity culture driven by reality TV and music industry monopolies, ultimately concluding that America is "the land of the free / home of the slave." Shortly after completing the album "Welcome 2 America", Prince embarked on a tour of the same name that included several shows in various cities across the U.S., culminating in the historic "21 Nite Stand" concert at _The Forum" in Inglewood, California, which ultimately led to Prince not releasing the entire album at all, sparking much speculation among fans about the content and songs that are now being addressed. The deluxe edition of "Welcome 2 America" includes the complete studio album on CD and black vinyl (along with a high-resolution digital download), as well as a never-before-released concert from Prince's April 28, 2011 performance at "The Forum," presented in 1080p HD with stereo, 5.1 surround and Dolby Atmos sound. All vinyl editions will include music on three sides and a collectible engraving on the fourth side. "Welcome 2 America" features Prince's only studio collaboration with GRAMMY-nominated bassist Tal Wilkenfeld, drummer Chris Coleman and engineer Jason Agel, as well as contributions from New Power Generation vocalists Shelby J., Liv Warfield and Elisa Fiorillo and keyboardist Morris Hayes, who Prince also enlisted to co-produce several tracks. A video from the concert shows Prince performing with the 2011 New Power Generation line-up of Shelby J., Liv Warfield, Elisa Fiorillo and Morris Hayes, as well as keyboardists Renato Neto and Cassandra O'Neal, bassist Ida Nielsen, drummer John Blackwell and dancers Maya and Nandy McClean (The Twinz). This performance was recorded in the midst of the "21 Nite Stand" concert series at the Forum in Inglewood, California and documents the spontaneity and unbridled energy of this historic leg of the "Welcome 2 America" tour. An audiovisual testament to the statement Prince himself made at the press conference to launch the tour in October 2010, "'Welcome 2 America' is best described as 'what we've all been waiting for. You have to come often because every time we play, it's something new. No show is the same. Bring your friends, your kids, and spray on your feet because... it's gonna be B funky." The concert features a guest appearance by current GRAMMY Award winner Ledisi and is a highly unusual set for a Prince performance, featuring a number of cover versions of Bob Dylan's "Make You Feel My Love" and Roxy Music's "More Than This" alongside Prince favorites such as "17 Days," "Controversy," "1999" and of course the unputdownable "Purple Rain." The deluxe edition of "Welcome 2 America" features deluxe gold foil artwork designed by GRAMMY-nominated artist Mathieu Bitton and GRAMMY-nominated creative director and Prince collaborator Trevor Guy, with a 32-page companion book measuring 12 x 12 pages and an embossed parchment cover containing exclusive Welcome 2 America-era memorabilia (a photographic print, a 23 x 36-page poster, a replica setlist, a VIP invitation and backstage passes). As a complete package, the Deluxe Edition offers a multi-dimensional and intense look at Prince's creative genius during his spontaneous, energetic and thought-provoking Welcome 2 America era.
