Going Back is the ninth studio album by English singer-songwriter Phil Collins , released on 5 October 2010. The album is a collection of cover versions of soul and Motown songs from the 1960s. Collins began recording the album in early 2009, shortly after announcing his musical retirement. The album received mixed reviews from music critics. Some praised Collins for his vocal performances and pointed to the album's "old-school" sound, while others criticized the album's lack of originality. The album debuted at number three on the UK album chart and number two on the US Billboard 200. It sold 101,000 units in the US in its first week. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded the album a gold certificate for shipping 500,000 copies. The album's lead single, "Going Back", was released on September 13, 2010. The song reached number one on the UK Singles Chart and number two on the US Billboard Hot 100. The second single from the album, "In the Air Tonight", was released on 22 November 2010. The song reached number one on the UK Singles Chart and number three on the US Billboard Hot 100.
