Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' debut album marks not only a new beginning for Nick Cave after the break-up of The Birthday Party, but also a new Bad Seeds formation, which at this stage consists of Blixa Bargeld (Einstürzende Neubauten), Barry Adamson (The Magazine), Anita Lane, Mick Harvey and Hugo Race. According to Nick Cave, he felt "musically liberated" and has since "put the lyrics much more to the fore". The album is undoubtedly regarded as one of the classics of the era and launched a collaboration with Mute Records that has subsequently lasted for over a quarter of a century. Tracks like "Saint Huck" and "Wing Of Flies" live off of great tension and dynamics, "From Her To Eternity" even made it into the feature film "Der Himmel über Berlin" (Wim Wenders), in which the Bad Seeds perform the song. Vinyl editions of Nick were long unavailable and traded as rarities. In October, the film "20,000 Days on Earth" will be released, which is in a sense (i.e., hyperbole) a documentary about the life and work of Nick Cave.
