At the end of October, an absolutely extraordinary album is set to be released. It will be a combination of two legends - Lou Reed and Metallica, who together will release an album called "Lulu"! Both Reed and the members of Metallica have had the idea to record something together since October 2009, where they all performed together at the 25th anniversary of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction. At that time, they performed Reed and Velvet Underground classics "Sweet Jane" and "White Light/White Heat" together. As Reed states in the press release, he knew even at that moment that they were made for each other and recording together was only a matter of time. Originally, the album was to be an album where Metallica and Reed would rework his old material, which the metal band members consider lost gems, but a week or two before the joint session, Reed came up with another idea. For Lou Reed had some time ago composed songs for the American avant-garde theater director Robert Wilson and a German theater ensemble that has been performing a piece called "Lulu Plays" in Berlin since April of this year. These songs are inspired by the works "Earth Spirit" and "Pandora's Box" by the German expressionist Frank Wedekind, who rewrote poems by Edgar Allan Poe from his collection "The Raven". When we recorded the songs, it was clear to me that the dream had come true and it was the best thing I'd done in my entire life. Plus, I recorded it with the best band I could find," says Lou Reed about the whole project.
