After two albums released in the nine months from October 1981 to July 1982, "Three of a Perfect Pair" is the final part of a trilogy that began with "Discipline" and "Beat". Originally released in April 1984, the album secured its status as one of the most interesting and innovative bands of the decade with its pointed minimalism in the title track, through the driving "Sleepless" to the closing "Larks' Tongues in Aspic III", the only reference to the 1970s band King Crimson, and its incomparable blend of rock, electronica, funk and pure pop. As with previous albums in the King Crimson CD/DVD-A series, the CD features a new stereo mix by Robert Fripp and Steven Wilson, and the DVD-A features a 5.1 mix of the album by Steven Wilson, a high-resolution stereo version of both the old and new mixes. In addition, bonus tracks from the 30th Anniversary edition and a video clip for "Sleepless", which was originally released as a 12" single and became a hit on the New York dance scene of the time, are included.
