When King Crimson entered the studio in July '74, they had two years of intense touring and the release of "Larks' Tongues in Aspic" and "Starless & Bible Black". Jamie Muir (drums) and David Cross (violin/mellotron) left the band, and in the process the band cemented its reputation as one of the strongest bands on the international rock scene. With many former members and friends playing saxophone, fiddle, oboe and clarinet, the band created "Red", Crimson's last studio album of the 70's and a true masterpiece of the decade that influenced many musicians and bands such as Steve Vai, Vernon Reid, Primus and many others. The 2009 5.1 remix by Steven Wilson and Robert Fripp was a great success and the audio CD/DVD was once again a best seller. Yet this album is the only one in the 40th Anniversary series that has yet to receive a new stereo mix. Recently, Fripp and Wilson completed a stereo mix, which is included on the "The Road to Red" box set. Review , "Although there was no secret of King Crimson's breakup in 1974, when Red was formed, its hard rock sound still ranks it among the plus points of British prog rock."
