In 1960 he toured Europe as part of the "Jazz at the Philharmonic" concert series. This tour featured Stan Getz and his band, the Oscar Peterson Trio and the Miles Davis Quintet. In Düsseldorf, the Miles Davis Quartet was to take part in a WDR television shoot. But it didn't happen, Miles didn't want to! He left his place only to John Coltrane, who became the main character of this concert, which you can now hear for the first time on CD and LP. Interesting is the participation of the most popular saxophonist of the time, Stan Getz, who joins the concert in the ballad "Moonlight In Vermont" as well as in the interplay with John Coltrane in the song "Rifftide" - a unique piece that has never been heard again. Oscar Peterson then takes over Wynton Kelly's piano part in "Rifftide". Review: "Despite John Coltrane's extensive musical legacy, with "1960 Düsseldorf" there are CDs that re-emphasize the importance of the legendary saxophonist. His performance at the Rheinhalle reinforces the image of a restless artist who is always looking for new musical challenges." (Jazzthing November 2010)
